Searching for your hero bag? The bag that you’ll grab nearly every day without fail due to the practicality & major looks? I’m sure you love more than one but let’s be honest; when it comes to “get your things and go now” thing, we all keep on turning back to the same bag for very specific reasons.
Every person has certain needs and aesthetic, so the hero bag will mean something different to each one of us. Despite all this, there are certain key points that can simplify the deciding process and are relatable no matter your style, age or income.
I’ve made this post just to share some things you should consider while searching the perfect bag for you, along with my thinking process on how to choose wisely without regretting it later.

It’s not a secret that we all love a good bag, isn’t it? I think I could talk about bags or search for the best one for hours if you let me -I may be guilty for doing this too many times- but let’s pretend I’ve never told you. However, what makes a bag “good”, depends heavily on the person wearing it.
The first thing to think about is definitely your way of living. If your primary needs are these of a busy bee going to the office every morning, then you may need a bag that holds your work related stuff plus some personal. A medium sized bag with sharp structure would be just right.
On the other hand, if you are a new mom running around like crazy finishing tasks & errands, you surely need a stylish tote bag. Extremely sturdy handles and multiple ways of wearing it will be a big plus for you. You get the idea, right?
So think about your specific needs, watch closely what you carry on a daily basis and think about what will make your life easier concerning your new carry-on gem.
Key Point 2: Quality
Since we are talking about hero bags, quality couldn’t be left behind. In fact, it’s the first and most important thing -well, for me it surely is- to consider. The bag that will accompany you in every situation and be able to make you happy for many many years, should be from a sturdy material that lasts.
You will not only have it for years to come, but you’ll also start having more time for you, as you won’t have to transfer your things from one bag to another early in the morning where your brain can’t even function enough.
Usually great quality comes within a higher price range and for a reason; better details, high quality materials, craftsmanship. If you keep an eye on your favorite design and can’t buy it right away, you can definitely start saving to make it yours rather than go the cheaper way. You won’t regret it.
I’m not saying every designer’s bag has the wow factor, so always make sure you look for details like the bottom of the bag or the handles to see if they are good for the way you intend to use it and then make your decision.
A high quality bag is always the best decision, as it elevates even the simplest white t-shirt that may cost nearly nothing.
Key Point 3: Size
I know that you have an eye for the candy-like Jacquemus bags or the mini version of the Balenciaga hourglass one, but if you know you have a lot to carry around don’t get obsessed over trends. Trends will always be there for you if you want to treat yourself to a new one. But what you need now should be laser-targeted to your daily life.
Meaning: size actually matters concerning bags. If you get a small bag it will end up sitting in a corner of your wardrobe, if you get a bigger one it will have the same luck. But if you get the perfect size for you, you will end up enjoying it to the fullest.
Just think about what makes you feel fulfilled and will be super helpful time and time again. Go that way. If your answer is a tiny bag where you only put a lipstick, a credit card & your phone in and can be worn day to night, then of course do it.
Key Point 4: Color
Finally, how not to think about the color? The color choice can make or brake the whole bag situation. It could be extremely helpful, or not helpful at all because it was a purchase driven by what caught your attention rather than what you actually need.
Don’t get me wrong, I do love a glitter bag or a bright colored one like the green Bottega -I’m sure you’ve seen it everywhere- but as a neutral obsessed person I always find that basic colors are way easier to style than a crazier choice. Unless your style is super colorful or your profession has to do with fashion.
The color choice of your hero bag is hidden in all of your “I wish I had a white bag to go along with my look!” phrases you repeat in your mind whenever it’s time to leave the house. These are the moments when you realize what you’re missing. Once you are ready to go but can’t find a bag to finish off your outfit. Seems familiar? I know.
For me personally, a bag collection must have several colors first and the bolder choices after. Once you’ve built your base and have your hero bag at hand, indulge in something different. Black, white, soft brown or khaki/olive tones are perfect to start with, making your life easier with their versatility and classic feel.
