I always loved having less without even realizing it. After watching myself closely, I’ve noticed why owning less saves me from negative feelings and adds to my overall wellbeing.
Although beauty and fashion are major loves for me, that doesn’t mean I want everything from everywhere. In reality, whenever I’ve purchased things without any thought process, I ended up frustrated. Staying true to what you absolutely like no matter what you see, read or hear on social media and magazines is crucial to a happier you.
And don’t get me wrong; treating myself here and there is something that I fully enjoy. But despite that, I have a certain thinking process before buying new makeup or fashion items, because I value my inner happiness way more than a spontaneous purchase.
Here are all the reasons of why owning less will save you too and help you think about things from a healthier perspective. In the end, it is definitely a mindset thing that needs a little bit of love to flourish. Let’s see them all!
It Clears Your Mind
The first and most important reason of why I love owning less is the peace of mind that comes with it. Have you ever wondered why you are waking up feeling stressed when you see your space? Maybe that’s the reason and you don’t even realize it.
Having a clear, calmer mind is definitely one of my life goals and minimal spaces are a must for that. Too crowded closets, a messy working area and overflowing beauty drawers full on things I don’t use just give me anxiety. Feel me?
Too much of all, stops you from caring for things that matter and fill your brain with questions like “What should I wear today? I can’t find anything in here”, “Where is my journal? I thought I had it on my desk” etc.
Minimizing everything is key for a clearer mind. How to do it? Start from the area that frustrates you most and keep only what’s important. Then move into the next ones. You’ll have a streamlined house/wardrobe/beauty space/office before you even realize it. What’s better than this?
It Creates More Time For You
Now this is for sure one of my favorites! Owning less stuff magically leaves you with less choices, less awkward feelings and way more time for you.
Imagine waking up in the morning and going to the bathroom to do your skincare routine. Opening your cupboard and only seeing the products that you absolutely love allows you to do your morning regime in a matter of 2-3 minutes.
Forget sitting in front of it questioning what product you should use next and why, or feeling bad about your unused purchases.
The same goes on when you’re trying to pick an outfit to quickly get out the door. If you have pieces that you know they work like a charm every time, you’ll need way less time to get ready. What’s better than this?
You can add as many examples as you want and still be able to see the magic if you cut out the things you don’t use. If you add up all this earned time within your day you’ll be amazed, trust me on that. Remember the 10 minutes you wished for to read your favorite book? Well, now you have it.
It Allows You To Be More Focused
Having a lot of work to do and going to your working area which feels stuffed and messy, majorly disrupts your mind from what’s truly important. Isn’t it? And that’s just an example. I’m sure you can think of more situations like these during your day.
It’s not a secret that we all have hundreds of thoughts in our minds all day every day. And it’s the easiest thing on earth to feel frustrated. Anything that takes away some of the unnecessary ones and keep us focused on what matters most it’s a great deal.
Spaces that feel light and airy help you keep your focus only on the important stuff. It’s like closing *energy draining* tabs from your brain. And I think we all deserve this to thrive.
It Helps You Make More Accurate Choices
Another reason of why owning less is good for you is that you’re actually able to make more accurate choices.
When you have a totally curated clothing collection for example you can easily notice what’s missing or what would be super helpful to have, and buy it successfully.
On the other hand, if you have a closet full of items you don’t wear, new pieces that just hang there with their labels still on, or old stuff you don’t even have the intention of wearing, it is extremely difficult to breathe and make the right choices for you.
The result? You keep saying “I have nothing to wear!” while your closet is full. Sounds familiar enough? I know. Minimize, minimize, minimize.
It Makes You Enjoy Your Items To The Fullest
Last but not least is having a minimal perspective in life generally. This will help you enjoy what you already have to the fullest.
Your favorite dining table with the gorgeous comfy chairs, the beautiful mug you’re drinking your coffee in the morning, the nude lipstick you apply again and again, your can’t live without beige pumps.
You just enjoy everything more and time just seems to run a bit more smoothly. And that’s a really nice feeling.
