Wouldn’t be perfect to have an easy buying “system” right up your sleeve whenever you feel the urge to shop new clothing or accessories? Well, consider it done. I’m presenting you the 4 ultimate questions you need to ask yourself before buying new fashion items.
When you feel overwhelmed with major sales going on, exciting trends or hundreds of choices coming at you from many sources, ask yourself these questions and simplify the whole buying process in a matter of seconds.
Summer is around the corner, the sun is out, we’re already dreaming of airy dresses and chic sandals, aren’t we? I’m definitely in this mood and I blame Greece’s weather 100%. With all the amazing releases coming towards us it is quite difficult to stay in your lane.
So before you turn into a heart eyed emoji with all the “new-in” from your favorite websites, save some precious time and make more clever choices with these 4 questions. Let’s go!
Which is my biggest problem?

The first thing to ask yourself is which is the biggest problem you are facing with your style right now. This is the question that will fire-up your thought process correctly and leave you feeling less overwhelmed and more confident by the end.
The only thing you have to think about is what frustrates you the most when you open your closet each time you are getting ready. Is it your too small collection of crisp formal shirts for work? Not enough day time dresses? The lack of a mid-heeled pump that would be super helpful when you need to feel your best but still be comfortable?
Even if your answer is the most boring thing on earth like more white t-shirts or a bra, this is the first piece you need to buy. Why? Because it will help you majorly the next time you’re trying to style your looks in the morning and make your wardrobe feel complete. Get me?
Fix your problem first and indulge in something secondary later. A life saver!
Can I use the fashion item regularly?

The next question to ask before buying your new fashion haul is if you can use your item regularly. Purchasing a statement dress for example is great when you have somewhere special to go, but not ok if you just want to have it because you saw it and can’t stop thinking about it.
How many times will you be able to wear this dress in reality? One, two? If you don’t need it for a certain occasion skip it. On the other hand, if you can style it multiple ways and make it look different then why not?
The point is to be able to enjoy your clothes & accessories as much as possible and be happy with them. For me, there’s no better feeling than having a piece I re-use all the time and can be transformed quickly from day to night.
Simple pieces that will help on the daily rotation are the answer.
Does it match my style perfectly?

It’s not so difficult to get mesmerized by things that don’t match your style perfectly. When I’m browsing my favorite websites I’ll stop many times by super feminine dresses that I adore like this Zimmermann one.
Will I buy them? No. Because I’m sure I won’t wear them, as my style is definitely towards the more masculine aesthetic. I want only a touch of femininity incorporated and I’m definitely not full on bows or flowers. I already know I won’t feel like myself in them and they’ll make me feel uncomfortable.
So it’s always important to know what works for you and what doesn’t. You can’t expect to rock Valentino dresses when you’re always strolling around in Rick Owens. Can you?
Can I make it work with the rest of my collection?
Finally, don’t forget to analyze the rest of your collection. Will your new item be able to go hand in hand with the rest of your wardrobe essentials, or is it something too difficult to be styled up?
Make sure you can make it work and create limitless new looks easily before you add it to your shopping bag. Versatility is key and brainstorming different outfit variations for your day to day dressing ritual will help you tremendously.
My best example for this is hands down my S.JOON snake print bag (if you need extra help with choosing the right bag, I have a post perfect for you here). I can pair it with nearly all my wardrobe without even thinking about it. It effortlessly elevates my simple, monochrome outfits and adds an interesting detail no matter what I’m wearing.
