Switching my skincare routine into a Winter skincare routine used to frustrate me, I can’t lie.

With so much advertising fluff everywhere and amazing colorful images and offers on products that look like candies to my eyes, it can be really tricky to clear out the madness and see what you should actually do.

Guess what? What you should actually do is simple. It always was and it will always be no matter what you’re seeing on social media or magazines. There are a few easy tips I go back to every time the weather starts getting chilly and today I’m sharing them with you.

It doesn’t matter what’s your skin type because these tips will help you whether you’re oily like me, dry or combo.

Want to switch to a Winter skincare routine? Let’s go!

How To Switch To a Winter Skincare Routine 101

Tip 1: Switch To A Heavier Moisturizer

Ok now my number one tip for making your skincare routine more Winter appropriate would be to change your summer-y moisturizer into a more heavy one.

This is by far the best and easiest thing you can do. And it can be the only thing you need depending on your skin type. My oily skin for example is pretty happy with just this small change.

Some days when I feel it a bit tighter due to the weather conditions, I switch my all time favorite gel moisturizer from Summer Fridays with Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Cream; a richer cream that keeps my skin hydrated for longer.

That’s it. Don’t think more complicated than that.

Tip 2: Add A Moisturizing Serum or An Oil

The second tip is to add a super moisturizing serum with a simple formula like a hyaluronic acid one that does just that *adds moisture*.

Use it before your heavier cream in the morning or before your night cream in the night. If you are on the drier side and this doesn’t make the cut, I’ve found that a hydrating oil is the next best answer even for my oily skin.

Again, add a simple oil formula that will add another layer of moisture before your cream day or night. The choice is yours.

Tip 3: Add A Moisturizing Face Mask Weekly

Another super easy step to keep your skin barrier fresh & healthy during Winter is to use a moisturizing face mask weekly. Or even more frequently if you are on the drier side.

There are hundreds in the market that give that boost in elasticity that we all looking for in the cold months.

The best tip here is to exfoliate your skin -I love an acid exfoliator like this– and then follow with your hydrating face mask. Your skin will love you!

    Tip 4: Drink More Water

We are bombarded with so much stuff from everywhere that it’s not difficult to forget the most important functions of the human body. Our body needs water to look and feel great period.

If you want deeply hydrated skin, then you have to start thinking from the inside. You have to drink a lot of water. Especially during Winter time where we don’t sweat that much and we can easily forget it.

My number one tip for getting enough water is to buy a water bottle that you like and have it near you all day. If I don’t do that I know I won’t drink any water at all.

And no, I don’t say the “drink water” tip like celebrities do. You know the thing when they’ve been asked how they maintain such an amazing complexion and all they say is “I sleep a lot and drink water”, right? Without referring to the botox or any procedures of course.

No! I don’t mean that. All I’m saying and from my personal experience as well, is that if you want juicy, hydrated skin that glows you have to have a combination of a good skincare routine and drink a lot of water too.

Tip 5: Think About Adding An Omega-3 Oil Supplement In Your Diet

Omega-3 oil or alternatively fish oil is a great way to fill in any nutritional gaps you may have.

If your diet is full on walnuts, fish, flax seeds and chia seeds you probably don’t need them. But if you don’t have these in your diet, then adding a supplement will help.

From my personal experience I’ve seen a difference in my skin for the better even back in the days when I had acne. If I could describe it with one word, that would be “stronger”. My skin felt less sensitive in a way.

Omega-3s are supposed to help with skin’s resistance to the sun, redness, dryness and overall health.
