The truth is I never thought I’d do a Rare Beauty review, but here we are! Why? Because I was never interested in celebrity makeup brands as I thought of them as a gimmick. Or as brands that celebrities just put their name on a tube without even knowing what the product is about.
My opinion on celebrity makeup brands only started to change since the queen Rihanna came out with Fenty Beauty. And now Selena Gomez with Rare Beauty. At first I saw the interesting packaging, then read some reviews and I couldn’t help but wonder what would be my personal experience with her products.
Just when Rare hit the Sephora stores in Greece, I had to make an order -after following my shopping process– with some products that caught my eye and of course review them here for you. You know I don’t keep these to myself, don’t you?
So here is everything I’ve tried and my thoughts on the brand that describes itself as an impactful brand that brings out your true self by highlighting your best features and not hiding them behind heavy unrealistic makeup.
Let’s go!
Stay Vulnerable Liquid Eyeshadow

First things first and I’m starting with one of my favorite ones. The Stay Vulnerable Liquid Eyeshadow in the shade Nearly Apricot. An eyeshadow that is just like the brand describes it, “a wash of color” or alternatively a “minimal makeup lover’s”dream. This shade is a vibrant apricot-y wash that makes blue or green eyes pop even more. I imagine it being absolutely beautiful on darker eye colors as well.
It is highly pigmented, super easy to apply and blend whether you use your finger or a brush and it stays put with a velvety finish. I prefer blending it in with a brush like this and perfecting the edges with my finger if I need to.
I would describe it as the perfect eyeshadow if you love something quick to make your eyes look more defined in a few minutes. Surprisingly great product and even greater if you don’t have time to get ready in the morning and need a quick fix. Would love to see more colors in the range because it is a beautiful formula. A camel tone or several natural browns would be brilliant.
Plus points for the packaging which is super small to fit in your bag wherever you go and easy to apply with its pointy wand.
Stay Vulnerable Melting Blush

Continuing on with my least favorite of all that I’ve tried which is the Stay Vulnerable Melting Blush. I have the shade Nearly Rose and it gives a bright pink wash of color on the cheeks that looks super natural without being too sticky.
You can definitely build it up if you want more but I prefer adding just a little bit with my fingers. A great product if you love satin, more juicy finishes, but I usually prefer something more matte due to my oily skin. The good thing about it is that you can’t overdo it so it makes the whole process quick & easy.
Would I repurchase? No. It is too dewy for my preferences. If you are on the drier side though I think you would love it. Maybe the Soft Pinch Liquid Blush would be a better match for me as I’ve tested the formula in store and it’s way more matte and velvety.
As far as concerning the packaging of the melting blush, it is super cute and easy to use on the go, so keep that in mind if you’re interested in trying it.
Lip Soufflé Matte Lip Cream

Now let’s get into the lips! I got one nude color and one red to have the full feel on these since their description sounded perfect for me. This is definitely my favorite product of all that I’ve tried from the brand and the one that really stood out to me the most.
If you are on the full-on opaque lipstick side I don’t think you’ll like this. But if you adore a “worn”, blurred look on your lips you’ll love it! It literally feels like liquid velvet, moisturizes the lips, stays super comfortable for many hours and builds up easily.
The shade Courage is a beautiful nudy-mauve shade perfect for barely there looks and the shade Inspire is the quickest lobster-red shade that I’ve ever tried. You don’t even need a lipliner; who can beat this? It features great color payoff without being “in your face”.
Lip Soufflé is like a cloud of color for your lips. A big big yes from me. I hope that they’ll expand the shade range because I would really love more nude options. What else?
Positive Light Liquid Luminizer

Last but not least let’s talk about the Positive Light Liquid Luminizer. I got the lightest shade of the range in Enlighten, which is a very natural liquid highlighter that gives a barely there glow. Like “sweat” but a gorgeous one if you know what I mean. Not glittery and not fake looking, perfect for any occasion.
It is lightweight and doesn’t feel sticky at all. Oily girls this one is definitely for you as it feels like nothing on the skin and won’t clog your pores. Also, if you love a natural glow this is great, but if you expect an -in your face- outcome then it won’t be enough.
The packaging is beautiful and the firm sponge-like round applicator makes the whole process easy to apply. The only thing to watch out is that you need to remove some of the product from the applicator before you put it on your face, as it picks up a lot of product.
I remove most of the product off the applicator by swiping it on the bottle opening so I can work with less and build it up if I want to. A great highlighter in general.
Last Words On The Rare Beauty Review

All in all, I find that Rare Beauty has potential on becoming a minimal lover’s go-to and I generally liked most of the products I’ve tried. The Stay Vulnerable Eyeshadow along with the Lip Soufflé are for sure my top picks concerning formulas, but I would really love more color options.
I have to say that I’ve also tried the Liquid Touch Weightless Foundation from a sample and it was really good on my oily skin. It looked quite natural and felt great (I surely need to try it for more days to have an accurate opinion though).
Finally, I would really love to try some other things like the With Gratitude Dewy Lip Balm as well as their newest addition which is the Positive Light Tinted Moisturizer.
